So I thought it would be nice to do a blog with some of my homemade recipes to share. I had forgotten that I tried blogging once before, over 3 years ago.
Well, I've graduated from college (Woot! to Hillsdale Free Will Baptist) , and I married that boyfriend I was so giddy about.
We're still madly in love. It's awesome. (No babies yet, give us about half a year to start, haha.)
Since I graduated (last month), I have been trying to make some homemade delicious-ness instead of surviving off of Taco Bell and Pizza Hut.
So far, I have made grilled cheese sandwiches with bologna and ham to compliment Cambell's chicken noodle, saurkraut, sausage, and mashed potatoes, pigs in blankets, and meatloaf.
Just a warning, these are NOT diet foods here. Homemade being the key word here. I believe in butter.
My plan is to give you recipes-free yummy recipes. So here goes.
Grilled Cheese:
3 slices Kraft or Borden American Singles
4 slices of Sara Lee Potato Bread
Country Crock butter
Spread a thin layer of butter on one side of each piece of bread. Place one slice of butter side down bread on a griddle or skillet, 1 1/2 slices of cheese on top, and the other slice of bread, butter side up (if adding meat, place between the whole and half slice of cheese, to hold sandwich together. Pairing grilled cheese sandwiches with a soup always makes good on a wintery day. Optional: add lightly salted tomatoes, Virginia Ham, Sun-dried Tomato Turkey, BBQ Chicken, Beef Pastrami, etc. Get Creative! (2 servings)
Saurkraut 'n' Sausage:
1 Jar Vlasic Saurkraut (NOT the bavarian kind)
1 package polska kielbasa sausage (Oscar Meyer)
5 lbs potatoes
butter
milk
Cut the sausage into 1-2 inch pieces. Put jar of saurkraut into a pot, with sausage in between low and medium on the stove. Stir occasionally.
Peel potatoes. Rinse. Cut into 1-2 inch cubes. Boil in a pot. When potatoes are soft enough that a fork runs through with no effort, drain. Put potatoes back into pot, add about a stirring spoon full of butter and about a cup or two of milk. blend on low-medium, adding butter until blended/preferred consistancy.
Sausage and saurkraut should be hot, spoon over potatoes, add salt or pepper to taste. Enjoy!
Pigs in Blankets:
1 pkg beef hotdogs (8)
4 slices Kraft or Borden American Cheese
1 tube butter flavored crescent rolls (8)
Slice a slit along the length of each hotdog, not cutting through the bottom of the dog. fold a slice of cheese into half, then fold that half in two, lengthwise. slide 2 quarter slices into each slit in hotdog (half a slice of cheese per dog). You may have to gently stretch the crescent rolls to wrap around the hotdog, just covering the cheese. Bake according to the directions on the crescent roll packaging-heat, length of time, and greased or ungreased pan. Serving options: Your favorite condiment, side of mac 'n' cheese, etc. (4 servings)
Meatloaf:
1 1/2 lbs Ground Beef
2 T. Onion, finely chopped (or 1 T. Onion Salt)
1/4 t. Pepper
1 C. fine, dry bread crumbs
1/2 t. Salt
1 (5 oz) can Evaporated Milk
3/4 C. BBQ Sauce
Combine first 6 ingredients, stirring until misture is thoroughly blended. Shape mixture into loaf/loaves; place in a greased bread pan. Spoon BBQ sauce over loaves. Bake at 450 degrees for 25-30 minutes.
(6 servings)
Good Luck, and Enjoy! ~Looking For Foodies (LFF)
